AhlulBayt News Agency: In a clear violation of the fragile ceasefire agreement with Lebanon, the Israeli military has launched an attack on the southern province of Nabatieh, resulting in at least one fatality.
The Public Health Emergency Operations Center at Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health reported that an Israeli drone fired a guided missile at a motorbike traveling on the road linking the village of Arnoun to Chaqif.
No further details were immediately provided regarding the identity of the victim.
The attack came just one day after an Israeli drone strike killed a commander of the Hezbollah resistance movement in the town of Deir al-Zahrani, deep in southern Lebanon.
Lebanon’s National News Agency confirmed that the strike occurred early on Saturday, targeting Mohammad Ali Jammoul.
Jammoul, 33, was reportedly on his usual morning drive to attend dawn prayers at a mosque in his hometown when the drone struck his vehicle, instantly killing him.
The report noted that Israeli helicopters had flown over the area prior to the strike, marking the first time such aircraft operated at that depth.
A Lebanese Civil Defense source stated that emergency crews extinguished the fire in the targeted vehicle and transported Jammoul’s body to a hospital in Sidon.
After enduring nearly 14 months of conflict and failing to achieve its objectives in Lebanon, Israel agreed to a ceasefire with Hezbollah, which took effect on November 27, 2024.
Despite the agreement, Israeli forces have continued launching attacks on Lebanon, including aerial bombardments across the country, violating the truce.
On January 27, Lebanon decided to extend the ceasefire with Israel until February 18.
Even though the deadline has passed, Israel maintains its military presence in five strategic areas in southern Lebanon, including Labbouneh, Mount Blat, Owayda Hill, Aaziyyeh, and Hammamis Hill, near the border.
Lebanese officials have condemned Israel’s continued occupation, calling it a breach of the ceasefire agreement and a failure to abide by withdrawal deadlines.
Senior officials in Beirut have vowed to take “all necessary measures” to ensure Israeli forces leave Lebanese territory.
